Chapter 14
Nora had once been my caretaker, but she later switched to working as a receptionist. Because I had never been chosen by anyone, she worried about me constantly. The day before I was scheduled to be sent to the fighting arena, she excitedly told me, "Someone wants you! She's a really wonderful young lady. Her previous werebeast was the most popular fox, Kaelen."
I knew Kaelen. He was the star of the Therian Registry before he was abandoned due to a defect, and I had heard he was rescued by a lower-tier human. A thought crossed my mind: she sounded like such a good person, so did Kaelen really not like her?
Nora told me not to think of myself as a werewolf. She taught me three concepts to live by: "Turn into a cat, turn into a tiger, turn into a little dog soaked by the rain." She also gave me a few lines to remember: "Love you, like you, you're wonderful," and, "I want to build a family for you."
"Hold on to her," Nora urged, telling me to cling tightly to this woman. "She's a really good person."
But Nora had understated it. Clarissa wasn't just good; she was incredibly adorable. She had wide, round eyes, delicate features, and a small, expressive face. She was so cute that I wanted to swallow her whole, hiding her away so no one else could ever see her. Her name was beautiful, too—Clarissa.
I was so happy. We even slept together. She smelled amazing, and she tasted so sweet.
When she cried in the hospital, she thought I didn't notice. Why was she crying? Was it because I had done something wrong? I promised myself I would love her even more from then on.
Then came Kaelen, that sly fox and shameless homewrecker! He took advantage of me being five minutes late from work and cornered my Clarissa at the entrance of our neighborhood. Shameless homewrecker! I hated you! Stay away from my girl! One day, I was going to bite you to death!
Good riddance! Kaelen finally left!
Clarissa told me I needed to learn how to reject others. Of course I knew how to reject people, but she wasn't just anyone. She was my baby. She didn't even realize how adorable she was when she asked for things—her eyes sparkling as her soft, small hands rested against my chest. I couldn't think about it too much, or I'd want to swallow her whole all over again.
I was pregnant! I had formed a bond with Clarissa ahead of schedule! It was certified and official, meaning Kaelen was completely out of the picture now.
We had a daughter, and she looked exactly like Clarissa. Clarissa told me to stop crying, warning me that it was bad for my eyes, but I just couldn't help it.
I was so incredibly happy. I wish you all happiness, too.
